Prerequisite: Level 1 - Thermography for Aerospace NDT

This course is co-presented by The Snell Group and Thermal Wave Imaging.  The Snell Group is the leading NDT infrared training company.  TWI is the world leader and innovator of NDT thermographic test equipment.  Since 1998 these companies have come together to support NDT personnel and programs with training courses meeting the requirements of ASNT SNT-TC-1A and NAS410.  Over the last nearly 30 years 1000’s of personnel representing aerospace, power generation, automotive and aircraft have successfully completed our training courses.

This 32-hour advanced course covering the theory and applications of infrared thermography focused on the detection of subsurface flaws in a variety of structural materials.  Upon completion students will be aware of how to perform active/flash thermography inspections on a wide range of materials and composite structures.

Level 2 reviews the basics of Level 1 and then expands into advanced techniques and radiometry. This includes topics on radiometric temperature measurement and how capturing high-quality data improves the diagnostics and interpretation of thermal signatures. The course delves deeply into the concepts of emission, reflection, transmission, spatial and measurement resolution. Also included is an overview of ASTM 2582-07 regarding flaw size, depth measurement and system performance checks based on signal processing.  Students complete hands-on predesigned experiments that support the theoretical classroom lecture.  These experiments are overseen by TWI staff with decades of real world experience utilizing state of the art infrared NDT systems in Thermal Wave Imaging’s laboratory .

An optional three-part (General, Specific, Practical) ASNT/NAS 410 examinations are available on an additional fifth day of the course for an additional $750. This is available for individuals with a written practice, inspection procedures and qualifying work experience. In addition, this testing should have the customer’s Responsible or Method Level 3’s approval. This testing must be arranged in advance and a student’s written practice, and applicable inspection procedures must be supplied to The Snell Group prior to the course. In addition, two blind test samples will need to be supplied.
