The Popularity of Low Emissivity Windows
Low “E” or “Emissivity” windows are becoming a norm for new construction homes and a high percentage of replacement window purchases. The increasing popularity of these windows comes as no surprise. They are very energy efficient, reflecting electromagnetic infrared radiation from within or from the outside of the insulated enclosure of the structure. They also minimize harmful UV that can fade and degrade the fabric of draperies and furniture.
Sometimes the Cool Components are the Electrical Problem
When using IR to inspect electrical systems, it’s good to keep in mind that the faults we’re looking for aren’t always what’s hot. Sometimes it can be the components that appear cool that are the problem.

Thermal Pattern Anomalies in Ceilings and Walls
A complete building inspection usually consists of two parts in which the conduction inspection needs to be completed before the air leakage inspection. In this tip discussion, we will cover the conduction inspection and the influence of air leakage during the inspection. During the conduction part of the inspection, the thermographer looks for anomalies or variations in the thermal pattern of walls and ceilings. These changes and differences can indicate missing, damaged, or incorrectly installed insulation.
Evaluating the Operational Condition of Steam Traps
Most people inspecting steam traps believe it to be a straightforward thing. It should be hotter on the steam side of the trap and cooler on the condensate side. Because there are many different styles of steam traps and several different methods of removing the condensate, it may not always be that simple.
