Im a PhD student and I want to make a proposal. these days Im searching on condition monitoring of electrical motors and power transformers. I find some papers on thermography method for these utilities. however I couldnt fine deep studies in this subject. would you mind helping me? do you think it can be a good subject for PhD dissertation?

Looked at your post a few days ago and have been keeping your request in the back of my mind and hoping to come across some examples for you.
As you have been researching condition monitoring techniques you have probably found that there is a multitude of opinions on what method is the best.
My philosophy has always been Show Me The Heat, here is an example from this morning, I originally noticed this Thermal Anomaly on 2 identical 300 HP Electric Pump Motors from a distance of approximately 250 Feet / 76.2 Meters.
As both motors and pumps are identical and drawing from the same water source (depth and head pressure) the motors should be running at the same load and I would expect the same external surface temperature.
Obviously this was not the case, while the external Δ-T was minor, further investigation showed one motor was running at a higher amperage load.
The problem was being caused by a large piece of Landscaping Plastic that had broken loose from some ware in the dyke system and became lodged in the pumps intake screen.

Here is another example for your collection, in this instance this New Transformer was just put into service 5 days prior to these Thermal Findings.
All the Electrical Load Data was normal and within acceptable standards, likewise the external temperature and fluid level gauges were also showing no cause for concern, however the Thermographic Analysis told a different story.
This type of anomaly (the cooler fins) is normally associated with a restricted orifice.
Sometimes, plugs are used to protect the tubes during fabrication, and if you forget to remove the plugs prior to adding oil to the system you will see Thermal Patterns like these.
A minor mistake but costly to rectify in the field.
