Our story began in 1983 when John Snell first picked up an infrared camera and sparked a passion for “thinking thermally” that continues today. In 1986, John launched John Snell & Associates to support the fast growing IR industry that seemed to be exploding with new applications for infrared thermography on a daily basis.
With a pioneering spirit, and the foresight to identify a growing demand for qualified training and consulting services by a uniquely qualified team, John invited Rob Spring and Jim Fritz to join him in a partnership. Snell Infrared was incorporated in 1995. John and Rob were among the first people in the world to be awarded Level III Thermal/Infrared certificates by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT).
In the early years, the Principals wore multiple hats and did everything from sales and marketing to training, with substantial time spent on the road. Jim spearheaded the significant expansion of public and on-site trainings, which propelled the company to substantial growth, and which cultivated an impressive list of clients.
In 1998, Snell Inspections was formed, a company offering full-service IR inspection services to customers for whom it was more cost effective to outsource their maintenance program. Roy Huff joined John, Rob and Jim as a partner in this endeavor and the demand for services provided the company with a strong customer base.
In 2000, Electric Motor Testing (EMT) inspection services became part of our portfolio, with a long list of customers eager to benefit from our expertise. By 2007, with the evolution of EMT technology and companies developing their own motor asset management programs, we strategically expanded our training and consulting services to include both IR and EMT.
In 2010, the Company began a new chapter in its storied history. After many years of ownership, John and Rob made the decision to transition to the next phase of their careers with Jim and Roy carrying on the Company's tradition as the leading experts in using infrared and motor testing. The new leadership team is committed to ensuring the Company's top position in these two technologies, guiding their team of experts around the globe.
